Nantou is located in the central part of Taiwan and is the only county that does not border the sea. There are many attractions in the area, but they are far apart from each other and are accessible mainly by car or public buses. There is no metro or high-speed rail system in this area. This article only covers accommodations in Sun Moon Lake and Cingjing Farm, which are the two most popular places for tourists to visit and are one hour apart by car. If you have enough time, it is recommended to stay for one night in both places. Otherwise, you can spend a day visiting both places and then choose one to stay overnight. Both areas are mountainous regions, and there is no night life.
It takes about 1.5 hours by car from Taichung to Sun Moon Lake, which is situated at 750 meters above sea level. There are many attractions scattered around the lake, and most of the hotels are located near the Shuishe Pier and the Ita Thao Pier. It is generally recommended to choose a hotel near the Shuishe Pier because it is closer to Puli and has better living facilities. There are Indigenous restaurants, convenience stores, and Starbucks within walking distance.

The journey from Taichung to Cingjing Farm is also about 1.5 hours by car. Cingjing Farm is located at an altitude of 2000 meters on a mountain. Some people specifically visit Cingjing and stay for one night, while others stopover in Cingjing for one night while traveling to Hualien. This route (Central Cross-Island Highway) only has accommodations in Cingjing. There are more than 200 Minsu, but if you are not traveling by car, it is best to choose Minsu with shuttle services (able to drive you to scenic spots such as Cingjing Farm, Swiss Garden, etc; you can call or email to confirm). This is important because you cannot walk to the attractions. Cingjing is a high-altitude area, so even in summer, remember to bring warm clothing.
